Stevens makes Bees pay penalty

Danny Stevens' solitary strike kept Torquay's hopes of winning the League Two title alive while increasing Barnet's relegation fears.

Barnet now head into April without a home win in the last two months as manager Lawrie Sanchez was left to rue striker Izale McLeod's penalty miss.

McLeod twice came close in the early stages before he was brought down in the 25th minute by Gulls goalkeeper Robert Olejnik but the 27-year-old's effort hit the left-hand upright.

The let-off sharpened Torquay's attentions and they clamped down on Barnet's raids forward for the rest of the half, centre-half Mark Ellis acting as chief spoiler.

The Bees made a nightmare start to the second half when defender Sead Hajrovic miscued a clearance and the ball rebounded off his head into the path of Stevens, who sumptuously chipped over Dean Brill.

Barnet's best chance to equalise was an inswinging free-kick by midfielder Mark Byrne which was headed away after 68 minutes.
