AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Torquay: Report

Late blow for Torquay

Late goals from Rashid Yussuff and George Moncur handed AFC Wimbledon their first win in five and put a major dent in Torquay's automatic promotion hopes with a 2-0 victory at Kingsmeadow.

Yussuff grabbed his first goal in 13 matches before Moncur struck on 85 minutes as the Gulls saw their winless run extend to three and Crawley creep further ahead in third place.

AFC Wimbledon had the better of the opening stages but the first good opportunity fell to Torquay when Rene Howe placed a curling shot just wide of Seb Brown's left-hand post.

The Dons almost took the lead on the half-hour mark but captain Jamie Stuart failed to get a head on Billy Knott's excellent free-kick which just bounced wide of Bobby Olejnik's right post.

After the break, Sammy Moore's shot was diverted just wide of Olejnik's left-hand post but the hosts took the lead on 79 minutes when substitute Yussuff slotted home into the bottom left corner from six yards.

And Moncur, son of former West Ham midfielder John Moncur, turned into the penalty area before curling the ball expertly past Olejnik.
