Welsh international Robert Earnshaw, the only player to score a hat-trick in every professional division in England, joined Major League Soccer's Toronto FC on Friday ahead of the club's opener.

Earnshaw, a 31-year-old Zambian-born striker, who has 16 goals in 59 appearances for Wales since his 2002 debut, joined the team in traveling to Vancouver for Saturday's first game of the MLS season.

"We're thrilled to have him join our team," Toronto FC president Kevin Payne said. "Robbie is an experienced player who has been a consistent goal scorer for club and country. With his pace and craftiness we expect him to create challenges for opposing defenses."

Earnshaw spent most of his career at Cardiff City, making his debut in 1998 and staying until leaving to join West Bromwich Albion in 2004. He also played for Norwich, Derby and Nottingham Forest before a 2011 Cardiff return.

Cardiff loaned Earnshaw last September to Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv, his most recent prior squad.
