Sebastian Giovinco continued his red-hot run of form with a hat-trick as Toronto thrashed Orlando City 4-1.

The former Juventus striker opened the scoring with a penalty in the 12th minute and got his second with a spectacular free-kick in the 56th minute after Orlando had levelled through Luke Boden in the 17th minute.

Collen Warner made the points safe in the 81st minute before Giovinco completed his treble two minutes from time with another emphatic finish, making it eight goals in five games.

The win put Toronto third in the MLS Eastern Conference, closing the gap on second-placed New York Red Bulls to two points.

The Red Bulls were held to a 1-1 draw at Montreal Impact.

Domenic Oduro put the Canadians ahead in the 42nd minute, but former Leeds winger Lloyd Sam equalised seven minutes into the second half.

Montreal had Laurent Ciman sent off in the 79th minute, but the visitors could not take advantage of playing with an extra man in the closing minutes.
