Dawson selected in 23-man squad

Albion defender Craig Dawson has been included in the men’s Team GB football squad for the London Olympics.

The former Rochdale defender caught the eye of manager Stuart Pearce after a number of impressive performances during his time with the England Under-21 side.

Dawson, who made 12 appearances in all competitions last season, will miss a part of Albion’s pre-season preparations due to his participation at the Games.

The 22-year-old will be part of Pearce’s 23-man squad which is believed to include Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards as the three senior players. David Beckham last week revealed he had not been selected for the squad, despite his eagerness to play.

Skipper Chris Brunt was also reportedly included in the provisional squad – although his inclusion was hindered by the reluctance of the football associations in Scotland and Northern Ireland to participate.
