Senderos blow for Switzerland

Switzerland defender Philippe Senderos is set to miss the rest of the World Cup with an ankle injury.

The Fulham defender limped out of Wednesday's 1-0 Group H victory over Spain in the 36th minute and scans have revealed he will definitely miss their two remaining first-round games.

Senderos has suffered the same injury which kept Alexander Frei out of the opening game.

"Victim of the same injury as Alex Frei, an ankle sprain, Philippe Senderos is officially out of the two matches against Chile and Honduras," read a team statement.

"The doctor, Cuno Wetzel, has left the door open to a return for the defender for a potential last-16 match.

"But by indicating that his injury is more dangerous than that of Alex Frei, the doctor has ruled out practically any hope.

"How can the future Fulham player get back to complete and full fitness in less than two weeks."
