Wilson backs Austin call-up

Swindon Town Danny Wilson believes striker Charlie Austin should be handed an England Under-21 call-up in the not-too-distant future on the power of his League One goalscoring exploits.

He arrived at the County Ground in October from non-league side Poole Town in a £50,000 deal and he has proved to be a revelation, hitting 13 goals in just 15 starts.

Stuart Pearce's backroom staff have watched him on three occasions and he has scored in each of these games and Wilson thinks he should be considered.

Speaking to the Advertiser, he said: "Charlie deserves to be recognised and deserves to be watched, of course he does.

"Stuart knows his players and what is available to him better than I do, but Charlie is a consistent goalscorer.

"That's what every team looks for at every level, whether it is full international, Under-21s, Under-17s or whatever. They all look for the same player."
