Swindon Town boss Paul Sturrock has started his shake-up of the County Ground squad by releasing six players.

Just days after the club secured promotion back to League One, Sturrock has told Aaron Brown, Royce Brownlie, Ben Wells, Jon Stewart and Scott Doe that they won't be offered new contracts, while Gareth Whalley has accepted a severance package ahead of the final year of his contract.

"I want 22 players here next season and at the moment it is very difficult to make too many more decisions because there a few people to speak to," Sturrock told the club's official website.

"There have been one or two others that I have spoken to and told them they may not be in my plans, but I don't want to talk about those at this stage."

Meanwhile, Sturrock has placed midfielder Curtis Weston on the transfer list, but is hoping to agree new contracts with Ady Williams and Barry Corr.

Midfielder Paul Evans has also been invited back for pre-season training in a bid to win a new contract.
