Robins land deadline trio

Swindon Town manager Paul Sturrock completed a busy transfer deadline day by bringing three new players into the County Ground.

Sturrock landed forwards Simon Cox and Billy Paynter plus midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern before the transfer window closed at midnight on Friday.

Paynter joined the Robins on a three-year contract after being restricted to just five league starts at Southend United following his arrival last summer from Hull City.

Twenty-year-old Reading striker Cox has joined the League One club on loan until January.

Meanwhile, McGovern joined Town for an undisclosed fee from MK Dons after putting pen to paper on a three-year contract.

"I have done well in League One in the past and hopefully I can do well again here at Swindon," McGovern told the club's official website.

"I am grateful for a fresh start and I am really looking forward to getting under way here."
