French defender Miguel Comminges has turned down the offer of a new contract from Swindon Town and looks set to join Cardiff City.
Comminges, 26, is out of contract at the County Ground at the end of the campaign and will leave on a free transfer.
The right-back was recently named the League One club's player of the year.
"I got a call late on Wednesday evening from (manager) Maurice Malpas to alert me to the fact that Miguel, after much deliberation, has decided to go to Cardiff," revealed chief executive Nick Watkins.
"It's a great disappointment for us all to lose a player of his quality and standard, but he feels an opportunity in the Championship is too good to resist."
