Swindon Town midfielder Christian Roberts will miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a serious knee injury.
The 28-year-old former striker has already gone under the knife once this term, but needs another operation to repair a micro-fracture in his right knee.
He told the Swindon Advertiser: "It is a long road back, but I have to be positive and I have to believe I will be back.
"The injury has beaten me. I have been fighting it for months, but it has killed my game and I need to get it sorted.
"Of course all sorts of things flash through your mind. I guess you would have to say my career is uncertain now and that was my immediate reaction.
"It is scary and very nerve-wracking because this is a big operation, but I know people come back from things like that, in fact they come back from worse."
