Austin netted the only goal in Saturday`s 1-0 triumph over Southampton to record Town`s first league win of the season, but the Wiltshire club paid a heavy price when the 21-year-old was carried off on a stretcher following a clash with keeper Kelvin Davis.
It appears unlikely Austin will require surgery, but the natural recovery time for an injury of this kind means he is facing a return to action at the end of October at the earliest.
Manager Danny Wilson said: "He's dislocated his shoulder but it's popped back in again, which is fortunate. That doesn't mean to say it's any less painful though or that he will be out for any less time.
"There's going to be ligament tears. I wouldn't have thought there is any problem with the actual bone, but you have to be careful with the ligaments.
"We don't know (how long he faces on the sidelines) yet, but it looks unlikely that he will be playing for quite a few weeks."
