Smith set for Robins bow

Swindon look set to hand new signing Michael Smith a debut when they face Shrewsbury.

The Robins, who boast the second-best home record in League One, will involve the permanent acquisition from Charlton when they welcome the Shrews but Nile Ranger will be assessed after he missed training through illness on Thursday.

Manager Mark Cooper will monitor the former Newcastle man ahead of kick-off, although the former Darlington boss will be without defender Grant Hill who is set for six to eight weeks on the sidelines with a calf problem.

Troy Archibald-Henville is unlikely to be involved and will target another start for the development side before he is considered for the matchday squad.

Shrewsbury caretaker Michael Jackson will not take any chances with Aaron Wildig.

The midfielder had only recently returned from a knee injury when he suffered a thigh problem against MK Dons and missed the 3-0 defeat to Rotherham at the weekend that proved to be Graham Turner's last game in charge.

Jackson, who will take the reins for the next three matches, stressed that he would assess Wildig carefully prior to the fixture but the midfielder would not be risked if there was any doubt about his fitness.

Jermaine Grandison is closing in on a return from a hip problem but will not be involved at the County Ground.
