Swindon eyeing defence reinforcements

Swindon manager Danny Wilson has made strengthening the heart of defence his main priority before the close of the summer transfer window. The Robins have shipped six goals in the first three games of the 2010/11 season, including two in the opening 12 minutes of Saturday`s 2-2 draw at Hartlepool. The loss of centre-back Gordon Greer to Brighton over the summer can be attributed to the defensive frailties, although Town shipped five goals to Gillingham in their season-opener last term before going on to make the play-off final. Asked about bringing in a centre-back ahead of August 31, Wilson told the Swindon Advertiser: "It has to make it a priority, doesn't it? I'm not knocking the two boys in there at the moment (Scott Cuthbert and Lecsinel Jean-Francois), but they are both young lads and we need that experience - if we can get it - that will settle them down and help them make the right decisions on a regular basis. "There's virtually half the Football League in our position, looking for an old fashioned centre-half who goes and wins the ball and keeps you together. The experienced boys are at a premium these days. "Who that will be, and when it will be available, we'll wait and see, but we're certainly very active in trying to find somebody. We will keep persevering and have a few irons in the fire. With a bit of luck we will get something before the end of August."
