Swindon boss Wilson gets vote of confidence

Swindon manager Danny Wilson has been given the strong backing of chairman Andrew Fitton.

The Robins have so far failed to match the heights of last season when they reached the play-off final at Wembley, with inconsistency blighting a campaign which currently has the club 14th in the League One table, while they were 20th prior to last weekend`s victory over Sheffield Wednesday as the rest of the division saw their games postponed.

The midweek FA Cup defeat to non-league Crawley left some Town fans questioning Wilson`s leadership, but Fitton has immediately leapt to his defence by insisting he is the right man for the job.

"My thoughts are very simple that if you believe in what you are doing then you don't deviate just because you find some bumps on the road," he told the Swindon Advertiser.

"We believe in what we are doing - that is the top and bottom of it.

"It doesn't even enter my head and I wouldn't dignify someone who asked if Danny is under pressure.

"Does that mean we are not disappointed by this season? Of course not. Does that mean you sometimes can't explain what is happening? Yes. But you strive to find solutions to what to do. That is the task of the management and if it was easy then we would all be doing it and all be top of the league."
