Smith arrives with a bang

Swindon's latest signing Michael Smith scored twice on his debut to help his new club secure a dramatic last-gasp 3-1 win against Shrewsbury.

Two goals in the final two minutes from substitute Nile Ranger and Smith denied Shrewsbury a battling draw.

Substitute Ranger came off the substitutes' bench to fire Swindon ahead after Paul Parry had cancelled out Smith's opener.

Striker Smith completed the victory from Rangers' set up in the dying seconds.

Smith celebrated his move from Charlton by firing into the top corner from close range on the half-hour mark after Yaser Kasim had crossed.

Parry looked to have rescued the Shrews a point on the stroke of half-time with a right-footed pile-driver from Jon Taylor's cleverly worked free-kick.

But Ranger headed Swindon back in front from close range in the 89th minute and turned provider for Smith to complete his brace in stoppage time and seal the win.

Shrewsbury could have taken the lead before Ranger's introduction when Parry's 67th-minute shot was expertly saved by home goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.
