Louis Thompson snatches late victory for Swindon

Louis Thompson struck a 90th-minute winner as struggling Swindon beat high-flying Walsall 2-1 at the County Ground.

Thompson, on loan from Norwich, netted his first goal of the campaign from the edge of the area to help the Robins to only their third home win of the season after Tom Bradshaw cancelled out Jon Obika's early opener for the hosts.

Swindon took the lead in the 17th minute, with Obika sending his header into the back of the net via an upright moments after goalkeeper Neil Etheridge had made a smart save to deny Jordan Turnbull.

After falling behind, however, Walsall enjoyed the bulk of the chances and the visitors levelled 15 minutes into the second period.

Bradshaw picked up possession 30 yards from goal, dribbled into the penalty area and placed his shot across Lawrence Vigouroux into the bottom right-hand corner of the Swindon goal.

However, despite dominating possession and territory, Walsall were unable to beat Vigouroux for a second time and, as the match entered added time, Thompson cantered forward to lash home a ferocious strike from 20 yards.
