Robins move towards title

Swindon edged closer to the League Two title after beating second-placed Torquay United 2-0 at the County Ground.

Goals from Alan Connell and Oliver Risser sealed victory for the home side who move seven points clear at the top of England's third tier.

A dominant start for the Robins set the tone for the encounter, with their player of the year Matt Ritchie striking narrowly wide in the 25th minute.

The former Portsmouth youngster turned provider 10 minutes later when his precision corner was directed past Torquay goalkeeper Robert Olejnik by Connell for the opener.

Martin Ling's side were further punished for not learning from their mistakes after 55 minutes when another swinging corner from Ritchie ended up in the United goal, with Risser finding the decisive touch on this occasion.

An uncharacteristically lacklustre Torquay struggled to mount any recovery, and subsequently saw their title aspirations take a severe blow.
