Rovers check Robins progress

Bristol Rovers produced a resilient defensive display to hold Swindon to a 0-0 draw in a feisty West Country derby at the County Ground.

Despite dominating for long periods of the game, Paolo Di Canio's men rarely created any clear cut chances with Scott Bevan only called into action on a couple of occasions.

Yet the League Two table toppers should, have secured all three points in the final stages of the first half.

In the 41st minute Alan Connell contrived to slice Matt Ritchie's driven cross on to the underside of the bar from four yards when it appeared easier to score.

The Robins' striker had an opportunity to atone for his miss in the 51st minute only to see a low, fizzing effort well saved by Rovers goalkeeper Scott Bevan at his near post.

Mark McGhee's side came close to snatching victory in the closing stages only for Matt Harrold to tamely fire straight at Wes Foderingham before Andy Dorman dragged a volley wide in injury time.
