Sparrow double quietens Robins

Matt Sparrow scored twice on his debut to make it a happy return to Swindon for Brighton boss manager Gus Poyet. Midfielder Sparrow struck in the 18th and 74th minute before Swindon struck back through Charlie Austin with 11 minutes left. Albion boss Poyet was assistant manager at Swindon with Dennis Wise four years ago, and his new side were ahead in the 18th minute when Sparrow, signed on a free transfer from Scunthorpe, blasted a left-foot shot from 20 yards into the top corner of the net. Sparrow scored his second when Swindon were caught on the counter-attack and he ran on to go around on-rushing goalkeeper Phil Smith before scoring. Austin, scorer of 20 goals last season, gave Swindon hope when he made the most of a rebound following a free kick by Michael Rose, but the visitors held firm for the opening-day win.
