De Vita propels Robins

Raffaele De Vita ensured rock-bottom Plymouth's woes continue as his late strike gave Swindon a 1-0 win at Home Park.

The striker swooped to fire home Swindon's 82nd-minute angled winner from the left hand side of the box following a flowing passing movement that finished with Matt Ritchie teeing up the scorer.

The closest either side came to scoring in the first half was in the 16th minute when Curtis Nelson's downward header from a corner was cleared off the goal-line by Ritchie.

Central defender Nelson had an earlier volley blocked by Alan McCormack and Town keeper Wes Foderingham easily collected Robbie Williams' goal-bound follow-up.

Swindon's best chance came when De Vita flashed a header just wide from Ritchie's flighted free kick nearing half time.

Town defender Aden Flint made a brilliant block to keep out Simon Walton's right foot rocket at the start of the second half.

Swindon countered with Jake Jervis smashing a thumping volley on the turn just over the bar as he met Ritchie's cross from the right at the far post.

Simon Ferry blasted an angled drive just wide as Town pressed for the opener and then Jonathan Smith flashed a header just wide from substitute Mehdi Kerrouche's 74th-minute left-wing cross.

Liam Ridehalgh made a superb sliding tackle to deny Argyle's teenage striker Matt Lecointe but from the corner Foderingham had to go full stretch to flap over substitute Jamie Griffiths powerful headed effort - it was a vital save as in the next attack Swindon took the lead.
