Pericard helps Robins to victory

Vincent Pericard scored his fifth goal of the season to help Swindon to a narrow 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers and end the Robins' two-match winless run in the league. Pericard's header from Simon Ferry's cross 12 minutes into the second half lifted Swindon to within two points of the play-off places. Both sides were denied by the woodwork in an entertaining first half, with Swindon striker David Ball heading against the crossbar in the 24th minute. Moments later Rovers midfielder Jeff Hughes saw his left-foot curler from fully 20 yards rebound off a post. Last season's beaten play-off finalists took the lead on the stroke of half time as defender Sean Morrison nodded in Michael Rose's centre. Rovers were given a glimmer of hope in the dying seconds after Chris Lines had been tripped by Swindon goalkeeper David Lucas and Hughes stepped up to slam home the resulting penalty. However, it was not enough to save the Pirates from their fourth defeat of the season.
