Pavett targets first-team spot

Swindon new-boy Jordan Pavett is looking to make a first-team impression this season after winning Samsung`s nationwide competition to sign a professional contract with the League One club. The 19-year-old striker saw off over 3,500 other amateurs in the `Win a Pro Contract` competition, eventually emerging from the final trio of youngsters who spent last week training with the Robins. Pavett, along with George Nash and Tyler Campbell, had previously impressed boss Danny Wilson in a 90-minute match at the County Ground which followed several stages of skills testing and trial games. Pavett, who showing similarities to Charlie Austin is currently a plumber with his father`s company, told Swindon`s official website: "I really didn`t know what to say. I started welling up as it was just such a relief. "The plan now is to get my fitness up to the required standard so I can try and break into the first team this season. I can`t wait to get started." Manager Wilson added: "He`s slipped in so easily, for such a young lad to do that is a bit unusual really, they`re usually a bid timid and they don`t want to overstep the mark. But he didn`t show any nerves like that, he came in and stamped his authority straight away."
