No excuses from Shirtliff

Swindon assistant manager Peter Shirtliff admitted that his side were well beaten as thye slid to a 4-1 defeat at Southampton. Matt Ritchie`s low shot briefly had the Robins level at 1-1 but they are only above the relegation zone on goal difference as last season`s play-off final loss looks further and further away. Shirtliff said: "We were quite fortunate to be in the game at half-time and we got what we deserved in the end. We cannot complain about the result. "We rode our luck at times and have just got to carry on and pick ourselves up. It is only us who can affect results at the end of the day. "We seem to be getting it wrong in both penalty areas at the moment and that needs to change. The team has changed a lot since last season and we are in a transition period at the moment. "It is hard at the moment because we are struggling with a lot of injuries and have lost a lot of players since last season when the team used to pick itself because they were performing so well. I think there is enough character in this team to get out of trouble in my opinion and we go into the next game fighting."
