Morecambe 0-1 Swindon: Report

Robins remain on course

Swindon moved a step closer to automatic promotion from League Two with a 1-0 victory at Morecambe.

Paul Benson scored the only goal of the game less than a minute into the second half, converting from close range after Lee Holmes had headed a Joe Devera cross perfectly into his path.

It proved to be a rare chance in a game that saw little goalmouth action.

Morecambe's best chance came in the final minute of the game when defender Nick Fenton saw a header loop against a post with Wes Foderingham beaten

The hosts started well and could have scored after just six minutes. Stewart Drummond's throughball caused confusion for the Robins' defence, who were looking at an offside Craig Curran, and Lewis Alessandra's late run put him one-on-one with Foderingham but the Morecambe striker's effort failed to find the target.

Both sides tried their luck from distance, with Luke Rooney firing wide and Holmes testing Barry Roche while Danny Carlton fired well over for the Shrimps.
