Robins flying high after victory

Swindon kept up their promotion challenge with a nailbiting 2-1 victory over struggling Hereford.

A first-half penalty from Paul Caddis and a close range shot from Paul Benson after the break made it six npower League Two wins in a row for the Robins.

Rob Purdie pulled one back for the Bulls, but Swindon held firm to keep their promotion push on track.

Hereford were the first to have an attempt on goal with Joe Colbeck lashing a cross from Nathan Elder inches wide of the Swindon post.

Swindon responded with Luke Rooney driving a 30-yard shot straight at Hereford goalkeeper Adam Bartlett at the right hand post.

Back came the hosts with Will Evans having a goalbound shot blocked by goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and from the rebound, Jonathan Smith cleared off the line from a low drive from Byron Anthony.

Swindon, however, stepped up the pressure forcing Hereford to defend in depth with goalkeeper Bartlett diving full length to punch away an inswinging corner from Matt Ritchie.

The Robins eventually took the lead in the 39th minute through Caddis who scored from the penalty spot after Benson had been upended in the area.

Swindon struck again in the 62nd minute when Benson scored from close range after Bartlett failed to hold onto the ball in the six yard box.

Hereford, however, hit back to reduce the deficit two minutes later when Purdie lashed the ball into the roof of the net from over 20 yards.
