Di Canio agent quiet on Swindon link

Paulo Di Canio`s agent is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding whether the Italian has applied for the managerial vacancy at Swindon. The fiery former West Ham striker, who is now working as a pundit in his native Italy, is one of the favourites to take over at the County Ground after Town parted ways with Paul Hart following his failure to prevent the Wiltshire club from slipping into League Two. Di Canio is keen to move into management but it has not been confirmed whether he has put his name into the frame for the Swindon job, despite plenty of speculation suggesting that is the case. The 42-year-old`s agent, Phil Spencer, told the Swindon Advertiser: "The situation is that Paolo has made it clear he wants to manage in England and I am pleased that he is linked with this job and other jobs. "We do not know what will happen, though, and nothing has been discussed with Swindon or any other clubs. It is important for Paolo that the club shares the same views as the manager and I don't know whether Swindon would be the right or wrong club for him." Interim chairman Jeremy Wray has been very impressed with the standard of applications received, with seven or eight contenders set to be interviewed this week before a potential suitor is chosen from that shortlist.
