Ball breaks duck in Robins victory

David Ball scored his first goal for the club as Swindon overcame Torquay 2-0 to ensure a comfortable passage into the last 16 of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Ball, on loan from Manchester City, struck in the 10th minute when he shot home after Vincent Pericard had sliced open the defence with a clever backheel. Swindon lost influential Scottish defender Scott Cuthbert after 27 minutes with a leg injury but they continued to dominate and might have scored more goals in a lively opening period. Jon-Paul McGovern brought a great save from Danny Potter and Simon Ferry hit the inside of the post. But Swindon were not to be denied for long and in first-half stoppage time, Pericard ran on to Ball's pass to score his fourth goal of the season. Potter prevented Swindon adding more goals in the second half with two fine saves from Matt Ritchie and a third from McGovern.
