Swedish spat not serious

12 Jun 2006 - 15:51:39

Sweden officials have insisted the dressing room confrontation between Olof Mellberg and Freddie Ljungberg after Saturday's goalless draw against Trinidad & Tobago was not serious.

The pair were reported to have squared up to each other as tempers flared following Sweden's disappointing performance.

However, Swedish FA spokesman Thomas Saleteg told Aftonbladet: "It was not a fight, but a short, but hot, dispute between some players.

"Two of those players were Mellberg and Ljungberg. It was a typical dressing-room situation, nothing serious."

There is a history of ill feeling between the pair, who were involved in a training ground punch-up during the 2002 World Cup finals.

Meanwhile, Ljungberg has been passed fit to face Paraguay in Berlin on Thursday, despite suffering a knee injury during Saturday's game.

Sweden will also be boosted by the return of first-choice goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson, who missed the draw against the Soca Warriors because of concussion.
