Sweden's goalscoring hero Freddie Ljungberg was a relieved man after his last-gasp winner earned a crucial 1-0 victory over Paraguay.

Ljungberg struck in the final minute in Berlin to secure a much-needed win, after a disappointing 0-0 draw with Trinidad & Tobago in Sweden's opening game.

"For much of the match we had the same problem as before," Ljungberg said.

"We created a lot of chances but couldn't score. Fortunately this time we ended up scoring."

Sweden coach Lars Lagerback added: "Every win is good for the psychology in the squad.

"There was some difference between the locker room tonight and after the last match. I think it will lift the team."

Paraguay coach Anibal Ruiz was downcast after seeing his side's World Cup hopes evaporate: "Sweden had more opportunities to score, they had more possession.

"It hurts but we have to congratulate the other team. Let me say that it is really deeply painful. There are no excuses, we just couldn't reach our goal."
