Lagerback sets quit date

07 Jul 2006 - 12:43:45

Sweden coach Lars Lagerback has confirmed that he will leave his post after the European Championships in two years time.

Lagerback has been in charge of the national team since 2000, with the first four years as part of a management duo with Tommy Soderberg.

In Lagerback's reign Sweden have qualified for two successive European Championship finals and two World Cup finals appearances.

However, Lagerback told Sundsvalls Tidning: "I think neither I nor the federation will want to continue after 2008.

"I've already been involved for nine years and that's unusually long."

He had said after his side lost 2-0 to Germany in the second round this summer: "We achieved two of three goals.

"For a country like Sweden to qualify for the finals and advance from the group stage, I think that is rather good."
