Lagerback hits out

25 Jun 2006 - 12:48:45

Sweden coach Lars Lagerback was left to rue the sending-off of defender Teddy Lucic in the 2-0 defeat by Germany in the last 16 of the World Cup.

Lucic was dismissed ten minutes before the interval in the Allianz Arena, with Sweden already 2-0 down as a result of an early double by Lukas Podolski.

Lucic saw red after a second bookable offence, a slight pull back on Germany striker Miroslav Klose, leaving Lagerback less than impressed.

He said: "I don't like to talk about referees and incidents straight after a game but I must say I'm not very pleased.

"He had some influence on the game with those decisions. I haven't had a chance to see the incidents on a video replay so it is difficult to say much, but I was not happy.

"I don't want to say anything much more about this.

"It is bad enough to play Germany in a stadium like this with 11 players but when you only have ten it is much more difficult.

"I must say I was not sure about the cards."
