Euro 2012: The players to look out for - Sweden - Ola Toivonen

Toivonen started his career at Swedish side Degerfors who play in Sweden’s second division.

He helped the club to avoid relegation. Orgryte signed him but there season was a disaster as they finished bottom of the league and got relegated.

Toivonen however still managed to win newcomer of the year at the Swedish football awards. Malmo FF then signed Toivonen in a deal thought to be around $1.1 million which made him their second highest transfer of all time.

His first season was a disappointment but his second he managed 13 goals and seven assists in 27 games. This attracted interest from West Ham and PSV Eindhoven and for around $4 million he decided to sign for PSV in 2009. Toivonen managed to score a hat trick in the first half of a game against ADO Den Haag and ended his first season in Holland with 13 goals.

The Swedes second season was also a good one for Toivonen, who scored 15 league goals and three times in Europe making him the clubs second highest scorer in the 2010-11 season. Toivonen continued to fire in the goals this season ending the campaign on 18 league goals from 27 appearances for the Dutch club.

Toivonen has scored six times in 24 appearances for Sweden and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Johan Elmander ahead of him he may be used from the bench. Chances are we will see him at some point during the competition and the 25 year old is certainly one to watch.
