Williams in line for honour

Swansea City defender Ashley Williams is expected to be named as Wales captain for the friendly against Scotland in Cardiff.

It would top an excellent week for the former Stockport County centre-half after he picked up the Welsh footballer of the year award on Wednesday evening, beating off the likes of Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and James Collins to land the crown.

He expressed his delight at the award but admitted he was surprised.

Speaking to the South Wales Evening Post, he said: "Things have moved very quickly for me and I'm a little shocked.

"It's an honour to win such an award when you think exactly who's won it in the past."
