Williams firmly committed to Welsh cause

Swansea defender Ashley Williams will be beaming with pride - and belting out the national anthem - when Wales take to the field on Friday night. The Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria at the Cardiff City Stadium marks the start of Brian Flynn's two-match stint as caretaker manager and Williams will lead out his team as captain.Flynn had little hesitation in handing the armband to the 26-year-old, whose career continues to advance.Williams, who hails from Tamworth and qualifies for Wales through a grandparent, has thrown himself into Welsh life and will be singing loud and clear - in the native language - when Land of our Fathers, or Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, is played ahead of the crucial clash. He said: "I can't remember what game it was but I was rooming with Owain Tudur Jones and after the game I thought `I'm going to give it a go, no-one sings it'."I thought I'd try to learn it as best as I could and with Owain, a Welsh speaker, we had the words up on the internet. I downloaded it onto my iPod and had it playing about 2,000 times a week. I just listened to it constantly. It was my way of trying to repay the faith in me and to show how much it means to me."
