Trundle pens Swans deal

Swansea City have been given a huge boost by the news Lee Trundle has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

The striker's current deal was due to expire in June 2007, but the player will now stay at the Liberty Stadium until at least the summer of 2009.

The Swans now hope the news will put to bed speculation linking him with a move away from the club following interest from Everton and Portsmouth.

"There's no question that Lee has been one of our best players, if not the best, over the last couple of years and we're delighted to secure him on a long-term contract," chairman Huw Jenkins revealed.

''This season has been his best so far even though the mounting speculation about him around the transfer window did not help him.

''Lee is 100 per cent committed to the cause of getting Swansea City into the Championship by one route or another and I'm confident we'll see the very best of him again now.''
