Swans upbeat on Gomez stay

Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez is hoping to be able to turn loan midfielder Jordi Gomez's stay with the club into a more permanent arrangement.

The 23-year-old Espanyol playmaker has impressed at the Liberty Stadium this season and Martinez is aware of interest from a number of other clubs.

He told the South Wales Evening Post: "Espanyol are moving into a new stadium and financially they are probably in a position where they will have to listen to offers for any of their players, including Jordi.

"After that, we know there is a lot of interest in him from British clubs. We know that because there are a lot of scouts watching our games and, if a midfielder scores 13 goals in the Championship, everyone is going to be aware.

"There is going to be a lot of interest, but to go from that to say we will not have Jordi in the long-term would be foolish. It's ridiculous in fact."
