Swans snare Williams

Swansea City have snapped up the highly-rated Stockport County central defender Ashley Williams on loan until the end of the season.

It caps a fine week for the 23-year-old, who made his senior debut for Wales on Wednesday as John Toshack's side won 2-0 in Luxembourg.

Swans boss Roberto Martinez is delighted with his latest capture, saying: "With Kevin Amankwaah picking up an injury in the reserves this week and Garry Monk and Marcos Painter already out, it was imperative that we gave our players extra competition and cover until the end of the season."

Williams has made 176 first-team appearances for County since making his debut for the club four years ago.
