Swans clinch Dobbie coup
23 May 2009 - 10:16:16
Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez is excited by the capture of Queen of the South striker Stephen Dobbie on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old former Rangers forward has scored 55 goals in only 89 starts for the Scottish first division side and appears to have got his career back on track.
After leaving Ibrox in 2003, Dobbie struggled to rediscover his early promise until he moved to Dumfries in January 2007.
A delighted Martinez said: "We've been tracking him since his first season at Queen of the South.
"When you finish as a club's top scorer you've got to take an interest. Our Scottish scout monitored his progress closely throughout last season.
"He's been through many different moments in his career since his Rangers days, but I firmly believe he's now ready for a new challenge.
"He's reinvented himself in the last two seasons at Queen of the South and is at the best age of his career."
