Gary Speed has emerged as the frontrunner for the likely managerial vacancy at Swansea City.

Speed, 39, is still registered as a player with Sheffield United where he has been part of manager Kevin Blackwell's backroom staff and is believed to be on the shortlist to replace Roberto Martinez at the Liberty Stadium.

Martinez is in talks to move to the Premier League with Wigan Athletic.

Speed, who is a former Wales international, said of his future: "I wouldn't want to talk about anything else while Roberto Martinez is still the manager.

"Kevin Blackwell has brought me into the fold and I've learnt a lot off him as a coach and it's been a great experience for me learning the ropes."
