Sousa takes Swans' reins

Swansea City have confirmed Paulo Sousa as their new manager with the former Portugal international succeeding Roberto Martinez at the Liberty Stadium.

The 38-year-old former Portugal international has signed a three-year contract with the Swans after leaving QPR in controversial circumstances in April after just five months in charge at Loftus Road.

Sousa becomes Swansea's 12th manager in the last 14 years and is expected to bring a brand new backroom team to the club after Martinez took his managerial staff to the JJB Stadium with him.

Chairman Huw Jenkins told the Swans' official website last week: "Taking into account the development of the football club over the last two-and-a-half years and the image we've portrayed as a footballing side, myself and the board of directors felt it was vital to continue along the same lines.

"It was felt that Paulo Sousa is the right man to do this. He's young, bright, enthusiastic and a visionary with extensive knowledge and contacts, not only throughout Europe, but world football.

"He'll provide Swansea City with a fantastic chance to continue developing and growing over the next few years."
