Scotland backs drop decision

Swansea striker Jason Scotland has backed manager Roberto Martinez's decision to drop him from the City starting line-up recently.

Scotland was omitted from the squad for the 2-0 win at Preston North End in midweek, but returned to the fold for the 3-1 victory at home to Wolves, scoring twice in an impressive display.

Scotland told the South Wales Evening Post: "I didn't feel I had to prove anything.

"The gaffer had a word with me before Preston because obviously I'm just coming back from injury and I've been playing a lot of games.

"I haven't had much of a pre-season and the gaffer thought I needed a rest. It must have been the right decision because I came back and did the business.

"I think the rest did me some good. I was feeling fresh and I think it was probably my best performance of the season.

"I want to get to the same level every week and be consistent every week. As a striker I want to be challenging to be top goalscorer. It's something I'm obviously looking at."
