Painter stays with Swans

Swansea City manager Kenny Jackett has opted to extend Marcos Painter's loan spell at the Liberty Stadium to a third month, with a view to a permanent deal.

The 20-year-old Birmingham City defender has made eight appearances for the Swans since joining the League One club in November.

Meanwhile, former West Ham United trainee Izzy Iriekpen has handed in a transfer request after losing his place in the first team.

The 24-year-old defender has started only one league game in the last three months, and told the club's official website: "I need to be playing and not sitting on the bench.

"It's a footballing decision. I don't really want to go and I've loved my time at Swansea, but at the end of the day I need to be playing football."
