Monk extends Swans stay

Swansea City captain Gary Monk insists he never had any intention of leaving the club after penning a new one-year contract.

The 28-year-old has spent the last three seasons with the Swans and is delighted to be spending at least another 12 months at the Liberty Stadium.

"It's been a long process, but with so many players out of contract it was always going to take time," he told the club's official website.

"It was just a case of being patient. I've said all along that I only wanted to sign for Swansea.

"It's a great club. I love being here and all that goes with it. My agent had to do his job and see what else was out there just in case, but it never crossed my mind to go anywhere else."
