Martinez eyes Scotland stay
28 Apr 2009 - 15:10:36
Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez insists that the club will not be forced to sell any of their star players over the summer.
Striker Jason Scotland has spoken of his desire to try his luck at the highest level, but Martinez says that any player leaving the Swans will do so for footballing reasons only.
He told the Western Mail: "We don't have to sell players and I don't want to sell players. I'm very proud of that.
"Even if a Premier League club meets our valuation of a player, then we will have to see if it is a good decision for Swansea.
"Everyone has a price, but the good thing is about this club is that we don't have to make a decision from a financial point of view. Every decision will be based on footballing reasons.
"We don't have to be worried about losing players, just proud that Premier League clubs are interested in them.
"We don't need to sell Jason and we want him to be an important player for us next season.
"Jason is a late developer. I don't think he is the same as other players at his age. His best years are still in front of him."
Thirty-year-old Scotland has scored 53 goals in 104 appearances for the Swans since his arrival in the summer of 2007.
