Martinez: Win for the fans

Roberto Martinez dedicated Swansea City's 1-0 Carling Cup third round victory over Welsh rivals Cardiff City on Tuesday night to the club's fans.

Jordi Gomez's 57th minute strike settled a tight encounter at the Liberty Stadium and afterwards Martinez was delighted by the commitment on show from his players.

"We had really good passages of play and I think we stopped a Cardiff side with a lot of experience," he told the club's official website.

"They were unbeaten this season and that tells you a lot and, in that respect, I'm very pleased for the fans.

"You could see what it meant to them . The atmosphere was brilliant and it was a fantastic day.

"You need to have a strong squad going into different competitions and that is what we've got at Swansea City."
