Butler prepared to battle

Swansea City winger Thomas Butler is determined to stay at the Liberty Stadium and battle his way back into Roberto Martinez's first-team plans.

The 26-year-old former Sunderland trainee was linked with a move away from the Swans in the summer but is happy to still be plying his trade in South Wales.

Butler admitted: "People talk, not the manager but maybe higher up the club, and there were rumours that I might be leaving.

"So I asked the manager. I said to him that if he didn't want me he should come and tell me, because I'm not the type of player to sit around when I'm not needed.

"He said 'I need you in the squad'. He said he believes in me and as a player all you want is that honesty.

"He is football-orientated, too, which is another thing that suits me. All I can do is try to prove it whenever I get the chance."
