Britton wants spitting action
24 Feb 2009 - 11:04:15
Swansea City's Leon Britton has accused Richie Wellens of acting "cowardly" after alleging that the Doncaster Rovers midfielder spat in his face.
Britton claims the incident occurred during Saturday's 3-1 victory for the Swans and the Football Association are to investigate the allegation.
Wellens denies spitting into the face of his opponent.
"It's the first time it has happened to me and hopefully the last because it's a disgusting thing," said Britton.
"I would rather him have punched me than spit in my face, it's a bit of a cowardly thing to do.
"We were standing next to each other and he had a bit of a problem because he thought I stamped on him.
"I said that I didn't mean to if I did and then he started telling me he was going to punch me and all that kind of stuff.
"That's normal when players are unhappy with challenges. We have a go at each other and it goes on in every game.
"It's only words and nothing normally ever comes of situations like that, but the situation with Richie Wellens was a poor one from him. He spat in my face."
