Bodde's worst fears confirmed
29 Sep 2009 - 15:39:50
Swansea City midfielder Ferrie Bodde has ruptured his cruciate ligament for a second time and seems certain to be sidelined for the whole of this season.
The 27-year-old Dutchman started his first game against Sheffield United on Saturday ten months after his first cruciate knee operation.
However, he had to be substituted after only nine minutes and head physio Cerian Parham has now confirmed: "The replacement graft has ruptured.
"It's very rare for this to happen as the graft is normally stronger than the original ligament.''
The former Den Haag star suffered the original problem against Birmingham City in November 2008 and Swans chairman, Huw Jenkins, added: "It's a big blow, not just for the football club but, more importantly, for Ferrie himself.
"He's devastated at the moment. But as a club we've told him we'll look after him and stand by him every step of the way - as we did last time.
"He'll remain a very important member of this football club. We all feel for him and I'm sure every Swans fan will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.''
