The 30-year-old defender will be out of contract at the end of the coming season. But on the eve of the new campaign, the former Southampton man has reiterated his commitment to the Swans. "The gaffer (Paulo Sousa) spoke to me when we were in Spain and said he feels I am a key figure in the squad," Monk told the South Wales Evening Post. "He said he is happy for me to stay and that's great to hear, obviously, because I've always said I'm happy here. I have always stressed I want to play for this club and, hopefully, something can be sorted out soon. "There have been no talks as yet but I think it's been a busy period for the club. The chairman is busy - I am sure he is chasing transfer targets - but hopefully things can start rolling over the next couple of months."
